NOTE: Cutting instruction measurements include ¼" seam allowances. Diagrams are not to scale.
With right sides together sew the 3½" white and light pink squares together. Press to the pink. Referring to the block picture above, sew the 3½" X 6½" light pink rectangle to the white and light pink pieced unit. Press to the light pink rectangle. With a pencil mark a diagonal line on the back of the two 2" white squares. Layer a marked square, right sides together, with a dark pink square. Sew on the line. Cut ¼" from the sewn line. See diagram below. Open pieced unit up and press to the dark pink fabric. Repeat one more time with the remaining 2" white and dark pink squares. These units are called half-square triangles and should measure 2" X 2" square.

With right sides together sew a half-square triangle to the 2" X 6½" dark pink piece. See diagram below for placement. Press seam to the dark pink rectangle.

With right sides together sew the remaining half-square triangle to the 2" X 5" dark pink piece. See diagram below for placement. Press seam to the dark pink rectangle.

Referring to the block picture, with right sides together, pin and sew the unit from diagram 2 to the bottom of the heart section. Press to the light pink. Referring to the block picture pin and sew the unit from diagram 1 to the left side of the block. Press to the light pink.
One block is completed. This pattern works best with a light and dark value of one color creating a shadow effect. A good pattern to use up your scraps. Have fun making each block a different color.
